Reflections on Divine Mercy and the Easter Season
Easter is the celebration of Christ's Resurrection from the dead, culminating in his Ascension to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church.
We celebrate the Easter Season in the Catholic liturgical year. It is fifty days from the Sunday of the Resurrection of Christ to
Pentecost Sunday.
Each year, on the Second Sunday of Easter — the last day of the Easter Octave — the Church celebrates the
Sunday of Divine Mercy. On this day, we contemplate the fullness of the Paschal Mystery — Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection. The basis of the whole Easter Mystery is the merciful love of God.
