For the past three Saturdays, the children of our Parish who are preparing for their First Communion this spring have been coming together for what is called a “First Communion Retreat”. One of the roles that Deacon Dan, Carmen and I have had is conducting tours of the Church, explaining all the various signs and symbols in God’s house and how they relate to the celebration of the Eucharist in particular and the other Sacraments. It has been wonderful to listen to their comments as well as all their questions. Their innocence, wonder and rapt attention has been inspiring! Please keep them in your prayers as we approach First Communion day.
As we continue along in our Lenten journey, we are making preparations for Holy Week and Easter. This year we are not going to make the Parish Paschal Candle because the last two we made looked great but didn’t function very well throughout the year. We are however going to make the small individual candles which we distribute to our shut-ins along with their Easter Lilies. We do have some candle pieces left over from last year but if you have some candle stubs at home we will use them. Again there will be baskets at the door of the Church for their collection. Also thanks to the Men’s Club for their generous offer to head up this project on Sunday, April 1st from 1:00pm – 4:00pm in the Parish Center.
