This Saturday, we are celebrating First Penance for the
children who are preparing for their First Eucharist in
the spring. Each year the innocence and eagerness of
these little ones is touching as they come before God
and ask for forgiveness in their own ways.
While people generally do not “go to confession” as
often as they did in the past, this sacrament continues
to be a valuable part of the spiritual life. As in every
relationship, we need to step back and evaluate it: what
brings us closer to God in our lives and what are those
things that draw us away.
Please keep these children in your prayers especially
this weekend as they take another step in their simple
but real spiritual formation.
On another note, we are preparing to celebrate
Thanksgiving next Thursday. Each year we have a
special Mass on Thanksgiving morning to pause and
reflect on the graces God has bestowed on us during
the past year.
Each year brings with it its own joys and sorrows,
triumphs and trials. Even in the midst of the
difficulties of life, we are conscious that God is present
to us and providing strength and comfort.
Families will be gathering and sharing that traditional
Thanksgiving feast. We are indeed fortunate to have
the harvest and the plenty to provide that food.
As you make your preparations why not plan to make
that 8a.m. Mass part of your day and give thanks to
God with the greatest prayer of Thanksgiving. Hope to
see you there.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
