Last week I had the opportunity to have a long visit with Deacon Dan, Nancy and their Cocker Spaniel Josh. Dan sends his love to all in the parish and continues to miss his ministry tremendously. He was most grateful for all the cards and correspondence he has received from parishioners. His health at the moment seems to be stable, although he still needs oxygen to maintain his breathing. He cannot be in crowds because of the danger of infection.
As you can imagine we talked about all kinds of things, from dogs to deacons, family and friends. He continues to read everything in sight and is as sharp as ever. Both he and Nancy continue to be positive and upbeat and grateful for all your prayers. We laughed at times and at times had serious conversation – some things remain the same!
I am sure he would appreciate even more cards if you have a chance. Just mail to the parish and we will make sure he gets them.
Valentine’s Day is coming along this week. Some people say we don’t need a special day to ‘love the ones you are with’ . Certainly love happens in the nitty gritty of living life everyday. But it is good to take time to celebrate that love that takes place in the simple kindnesses and thoughtfulness in our lives.
It is also a time to celebrate and be grateful for the perfect love which God has for each of us. His unconditional love was present before we even knew that God existed and it envelops us all of our days. That love extends even beyond this life, into the eternal gift of the kingdom of heaven.
Love is certainly in the air. We have been blessed!
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY
