As you read this, I will be away on my annual retreat week.
I had planned to have Fr. Sam cover for me while I was
away; however, he received word that he had to return to
Africa last Wednesday, sooner than he expected. He was
able to find Fr. Peter Shaba, an SMA Father who is between
assignments, to come and to provide coverage. I am sure
you will welcome Fr. Peter with your usual warmth.
Fr. Sam has been with us since July 1st and has provided
me with friendship and companionship while he was getting
refreshed for his next assignment. I am grateful to him for
all of his presence. Abby and I will miss him. He hopes to
return to the United States in the not too distant future and I
am sure he will be visiting again. Godspeed, Fr. Sam.
A reminder that our Annual Memorial Mass is scheduled
for Monday evening, November 3rd at 7 p.m. As you know,
all who have had a death in their family during this past
year are invited to gather as we remember them and pray
for those who have died as well as those who have
survived. Personal invitations are sent to those who had
funerals here at St. Michael’s.
On another note, my sister had back surgery on October
15th and is now recuperating. According to her doctor, it
will be a long while before she is fully functioning again. In
the meantime, she cannot return to work for several months
and will be in physical therapy for some time.
My friend Fr. Bob is also recuperating from his shoulder
surgery. He is able to be home in Uxbridge with Honey (!)
but he too is in the process of many weeks of physical
therapy.
Thank you for your ongoing prayers for them and please
say one for me during this time of retreat!
