Fr. Ron's Ramblings!
This past week Abby and I went to the vet for her annual check up. All is well and he marveled at what great shape she is in. It's good thing since Honey gives her (and all of us) a workout every time they are together!
Back at home in Uxbridge, we have several "squirrel proof" bird feeders outside our kitchen window. While the food disappears quickly with those small creatures always around, we still get a fair number of birds feeding. Watching their beautiful, delicate features and the amazing variety of colors is a meditation unto itself. There''s the black and white woodpecker with the red head and the beautiful pairs of orange/red cardinals that visit every day; the small sparrow like birds that appear, with red or yellow or brown feathers. The detail is exquisite! You might think that some designer had personally fashioned each one.
Of course the Master Designer has been at work! Jesus uses the image of these birds in the gospels. He tells us that if God can take sure care in creating the innumerable birds of the air and making them so beautiful (as He also does with the wild flowers of the fields), how much more does God care for each one of us. He says that not a hair of our head will fall to the ground without God's knowledge.
It is difficult for us to grasp or absorb that ever-present, all consuming love and care God has for us. Yet we hear that message over and over again. Psalm 139 reminds us that "O Lord, with all my ways you are familiar...Such knowledge is too wonderful for me to grasp".
May we become as familiar with God's ways as He is with ours!
