Fr. Ron's Ramblings
As we gather this weekend we observe the annual celebration of Labor Day, the official ending of the summer season. Children are returning to school and the “lazy crazy days of summer” give way to the normal routines of daily life. So too do our parish activities resume.
Last Sunday afternoon we enjoyed another glorious day for our parish picnic. A large crowd gathered to celebrate Mass, to eat hotdogs and hamburgers, and to enjoy being together as a sign of our parish life. Raffles were held and children’s games were organized and played throughout the afternoon.
There are so many people to thank: the men’s club, our music ministry, the Portuguese contribution of Malasadas, and all of you who brought delicious homemade side dishes. I was informed that next year will be the fortieth anniversary of the parish picnic which began in 1977! We will have to make that one special!
Today Monday, we are having our farewell party for Fr. William who leaves for Africa tomorrow. He wishes to express his deep gratitude for all your generosity toward him this summer. I asked him if he had a good time. He said it would take volumes to write up all the memories he has made over these weeks. We hope he returns to his ministry refreshed and renewed by his summer at St. Michael’s!
