We once again arrive at the wonderful celebration of Easter Sunday. For the six weeks of Lent we have fasted, prayed, and done good deeds, seeking renewal of heart and soul. This past week we celebrated the core mystery of our faith – the Institution of the Eucharist, the Passion, Death, and today the Resurrection of Jesus to New Life. And we give thanks that God has chosen to share that gift with each of us.
As I look out my window here in Uxbridge (where I am writing from) the spring birds are returning to the feeders and trees are beginning to bud. Even if we get another snowstorm, we know that spring is here and the days ahead will be warmer and more alive than we have had for a few months.
It is that longing for spring that also sparks our longing and yearning for God at this time of year. And that longing is satisfied with the New Life Jesus brings through His Resurrection.
For me, obviously that new life has come and continues to come through my healing process. It is amazing to experience God’s healing love through the body’s own ability to heal itself; to come to know so many healing professionals from doctors and nurses, to visiting nurses and physical therapists who travel the roads, rain or shine, to contribute to the healing of so many who are housebound. They go about their important roles in life everyday with little recognition or even knowledge until we are in need.
It is that kind of new life we experience that we celebrate today on Easter Sunday. May your new life invigorate you and help you to see the many ways God heals and renews us every day.
