Familiarize yourself with the content first! Read the essays found in the appendix (following page 239 in the Parent’s Guide). Read the articles/paragraphs in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (see pages 8 and 9 in the Parent’s Guide). The YouCat for Kids should help you understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church and provide examples of how to present the material to your children at an appropriate age level.
When engaging in the Family of Faith lessons, determine the most appropriate activities for your family.
Explore ways to make learning fun! Games!
Use visuals (art and symbols) to explore the faith.
Tell stories from your own life and faith journey! Consider sharing what your faith and prayer means to you in your life.
Discuss real world situations from each family member’s day and converse about ways in which we can follow Jesus by our actions.
Use different approaches such as music and videos to supplement content and learning.
Create a prayer space at home.
Invite prayer intentions from each family member after Grace before meals, at bedtime prayer, or in your prayer space.
Encourage family members to pray for one another.
Use analogies and similes as Jesus did. Think modern-day parables.
Allow children to engage in content in ways that honor their learning style and preferences. For example: art, journaling, music, etc.
Read the Gospel Reading with your family before Mass and discuss.
Remember the domestic church is where faith begins. Live out your faith!
