Finally the weather seems to be cooperating with the season! Warmer temperatures inevitably will bring about flowers and budding trees. Even Abby likes to just bask in the sun! It is so good to see the sun and feel the warmth. Let’s hope it continues!
Last Sunday at the 9 a.m. Mass, our religious ed kindergarteners “graduated”. As unusual, it was heartwarming to see these little ones come forward and receive their certificates. “A little child shall lead you” is the scripture that comes to mind. Their innocence and enthusiasm is a reminder to us of the simplicity with which God calls us to in relationship with Him. As the religious education year ends, we are grateful for all those who have given of themselves to share the faith with all our children.
This weekend on Saturday, we are having a communal Celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick. This is for anyone who feels the need of God’s healing grace in their lives – physically, spiritually, or emotionally. It is a beautiful sacrament recalling God’s desire for our health and wholeness.
It is important to remember that this is no longer “The Last Rites” for those on the verge of death. It is a sacrament very much for the living. Anytime an illness strikes, even if it is not terminal, it is appropriate to celebrate. People facing surgery, for example, often request the sacrament as a healing measure.
The Easter Season is a particularly powerful time to celebrate this sacrament. For it is through the Resurrection that new life has been won for us; and that new life can bring us refreshment and renewal as we face the ups and downs of life.
Let us remember this weekend in a special way all those who are facing illness and who may be homebound. May they too be touched with God’s healing love.
