Today as we conclude the Christmas Season, on this Feast of the Epiphany, it has become our parish tradition to do so with the Annual Carol Sing. John Volpe, Sally Guidotti, and our choirs invite all parishioners to bring this wonderful season to an end by singing. Each year we have a wonderful turn out of parishioners, once the holiday rush is over. It is a joyful and prayerful experience for all. You are all most welcome this afternoon in the upper church from 3pm – 4 pm.
Today’s Feast of the Epiphany is one of the symbolically richest feasts in our liturgical calendar. One of the themes we often see in the scriptures is the theme of journey. It is a thread from the very beginning of the bible: The Israelites journey from slavery to freedom to the journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The Magi set out on the same journey as we all do: following the star that leads us to the place where the Savior is born. Sometimes it gets cloudy and dark and we lose sight of that star; but eventually the sky clears and we are on track again.
The goodness and love of God is that He has chosen to enter our world and to make his dwelling place among up. Jesus remains with us all days until the end of time. Hence the destination of our journey is to reach the manger where He is born for us and to fall down on our knees before Him and to give him the gift of ourselves and the glory and praise which He deserves!
Each year as we celebrate this wonderful feast we are reminded of that journey and we are renewed in our pursuit of the God of our ancestors and the God of our present. May we truly be companions to each other on this journey.
