After several years, Carmen Giombetti, our Pastoral Associate, has decided to leave St. Michael’s. Her last day will be this coming Thursday, April 30th. Over her time with us, she has ministered to the bereaved in planning funerals; she has assisted in the RCIA and adult confirmation programs; she has offered numerous adult faith formation opportunities; she has assisted with baptism and wedding information; and has worked with liturgy planning and worship aids. We thank her for her years of service among us and wish her well in future endeavors.
Our community celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick last weekend, was as usual, a very moving celebration of God’s healing love. About sixty people were present. The scripture, music and prayers all created an atmosphere in which God’s presence was clearly felt. We thank all those who were involved in the planning and execution of this wonderful service. We hope to plan another one in the fall and encourage all to take part.
I’d also like to
thank you for your generous response to the campaign to paint and repair the church.
A question has been posed asking what has happened to the money from the sale of our school properties. To reiterate again, when the schools closed, we were left with a $1.2 million debt. The money from the sale goes to pay down that debt but in no way pays the whole amount. Hence, we still have a substantial loan with the Archdiocese and no ability to borrow for the repair of our church. Therefore, we have to raise that money ourselves.
There are pledge cards at the doors of the church for those of you who did not receive one in the mail and I once again ask for your generosity in bringing St. Michael’s back to pristine shape!
