FR. RON’S RAMBLINGS!
As we pass this mid-point in the month of October we are preparing for two important liturgical celebrations. On November 2nd we have scheduled the Annual Memorial Mass, remembering all those who have died during this past year. This is an opportunity for all those who have lost a loved one this year to come together. This Mass affords a time to remember and pray for our deceased, to gain support from one another’s presence, and to experience God as He journeys with us through the process of grief.
Letters will be going out inviting the families of those who were buried from St. Michael’s. However, anyone who has had a death in the family this past year is most welcome. No need to pre-register. Just come along and spend some time with us. We wish to extend the sympathy of the parish and reiterate the hope of the Resurrection!
The second liturgical celebration will be held on the following Saturday morning at 11 a.m. This is our semi-annual communal celebration of the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. As you know this sacrament, formerly called Extreme Unction, is now available to anyone who has a felt need of healing. This is always a time when those celebrating the sacrament are touched by God’s healing love.
We know that in the Gospels Jesus performed many healing miracles. Always He emphasizes the healing of the inner person. “It is your faith that heals you”. So while this sacrament may or may not provide physical healing, it goes a long way to bringing peace and harmony to the believer.
Mary Ellen Bartlett our parish nurse is presently recuperating from knee replacement surgery. We send her our thoughts and prayers. But she fully hopes and intends to be back with us for this Healing Mass. We hope you will join us as well.
