FR. RON’S RAMBLINGS!
As I sit to write this column, the outside temperature is in the mid forties and it is obvious that fall is here. Driving around we see how the trees have begun to take on their reds and oranges and ambers. The days are growing shorter and even Hurricane Joaquin off the coast is a sign of the season.
Very fall as we begin another church year, we have to begin thinking about the grand annual collection. Shortly you will be receiving a letter about this annual appeal. It is difficult to once again ask for your donations. Your great generosity this past spring and summer enabled us to refurbish our church building and bring it back to its beautiful state. But financial realities are more pressing than my hesitancy to ask.
As you know from previous years, the monies from this annual collection become an essential part of our operating budget each year. This past winter we did not have a fuel collection because of the painting fund. That means our income was down between $30,000 and $40,000 and has left us with a very low cash balance as we go forward. That makes this collection all the more important.
Last year our goal was $50,000. And you were generous enough that we met that goal. I am hoping that we can meet that same goal this year.
At this point most of the major maintenance issues have been addressed. WE have a new parking lot (!) and newly painted church. We still need to have work done on the stain glass windows in our lower church. And of course the ongoing unexpected issues that will arise.
Please consider your donation when the letter arrives. And if you do not receive a letter there will be additional envelopes at the doors of the church. The collection will be taken up on the weekend of October 25. But of course your donations will be accepted whenever you are able.
