FR. RON'S RAMBLINGS
THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
DECEMBER 11, 2016
This morning (Monday) we awoke to the first snowfall of the season. While it was only a couple of inches, this first storm each year causes much skidding and fender benders as people learn how to drive on slippery roads anew!! This morning all the backroads were untreated as I drove along but luckily my all-wheel drive got me through.
This first snow likewise intensifies the sense of the Advent Season. Winter is really arriving and the warmth of a fire in the hearth and candles flickering in the window present a welcome invitation to sit for awhile and ponder the wait, the anticipation, the preparation for the coming Christmas season.
We have weathered yet another Black Friday and Cyber Monday. My email is chock full of “today only” sales that get repeated each morning. Our giving tree has been emptied of ornaments and gifts have begun pouring in.
Today we light our third candle on the Advent wreath. This pink candle signifies that the season is half way over - two weeks left. We still have time! But before you know these two weeks will fly by even faster than the first two.
So these days let’s pray for the coming of the Messiah once again into our hearts.
Maranatha: Come of Christ the Lord!!!
