FR. RON’S RAMBLINGS!
As we bring the month of January to a conclusion today, I send out my condolences to all our Patriot’s fans! Although I am not a big sports fan myself, I do recognize the letdown of defeat. We can hope for the super bowl next year!
Moving into this month of February, it is the time when we begin the Season of Lent. A week from Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. We will follow our usual schedule with Masses at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and a Liturgical Service at 4 p.m. Ashes will be distributed at all those time, only, during the day.
As a reminder only children who have received First Penance may receive ashes. It is a sign of our own penance and turning back to God, it doesn’t make sense for a child who has not reached the age of reason and the comprehension of sinfulness to repent! Children of course are always welcome and will receive a blessing if presented to the minister.
During Lent there will be several opportunities offered to observe this season. We will offer more details in next weekend’s bulletin.
One of the traditional ways to observe Lent which remains a popular choice in our parish, is daily Mass. Long before the time I was young, people have made the effort to attend Mass each morning as a way to “return to God with all our hearts”.
However you choose to observe this season, let’s hope it becomes a way that draws you closer to the heart of God!
