This weekend we celebrate the Fifth Sunday in the Easter Season. The scripture readings continue to relate how the Good News of the Resurrection was spreading during those early years of the church. We hear how the apostles, especially Peter and Paul, took leadership roles at that time. Although that time was not without controversy (as is true of every age of the church) the numbers nevertheless grew and more people were added every single day.
This weekend we also celebrated our second ceremony of First Communion. Another thirty five children received the Lord for the first time in the Eucharist. May God continue to bless them, their families, and all those who helped prepare them for this important time.
Of course we also celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday. While we need to honor and respect our mothers and all women in our lives every day, yearly this day is set aside to remind us to do something special for our mothers who do special things every single day. For many of us all we can do is pray for our mothers who have died. For many more of us we get to choose something that will celebrate them and honor them as well as pray for them.
May God bless all our mothers, both living and deceased.
