FR. RON’S RAMBLINGS
!
As I write this column it is early Monday morning and the temperature is already a sticky 72 degrees! Summer has arrived and settled in full force. I asked Fr. Chris after Mass on Sunday if the church was hot. He said yes it was very nice!!! It’s all in what you are used to I guess. Abby loves to lay in the sun in the heat of the day, and then come into the air conditioning to be refreshed. She does this numerous times at home and I just stand there puzzled.
These hot summer days, I am sure, present a challenge to the many painters who have begun work on our church. To watch them painstakingly scape off the old paint and apply the new, in 80-90 degree weather leaves me in awe at their stamina. The only thing that keeps them off the scaffolding is thunder and lightning. I was never a construction worker of any sort (as I am sure you have surmised!).
We have almost reached the goal for our painting fund and I remain ever grateful for your generosity. When we do exceed it we will use the money to address the other issues in the church.
As the scripture readings remind us this weekend, Jesus calls us to imitate Him as the shepherds of one another. During the warm days it is good to watch over those who may be elderly and homebound, especially those who have no air conditioning. And of course to care for oneself as well.
Those of you who are vacationing I hope that your are refreshed and renewed.
Please also remember your parish envelopes when you return. Our bills don’t disappear in the summer!!
