FEAST OF THHE HOLY TRINITY
June 11, 2017
One of the essential parts of being human is that we form all kinds of relationship. Some are very close like spouses or children, siblings or cousins. Some are a little less close like neighbors or co-workers. And some are mere acquaintances like the garage mechanic or the store clerk. But all these relationships we have in life point to the fact that by nature we are social beings who need one another.
In the book of Genesis the author tells us that we are made in the image and likeness of God. And as it turns out that means that God is relational as well. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity and one of the things that this mystery tells us about God is that He is in a very intimate relationship of three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The depth of love in that relationship overflows into the creation of humanity and eventually into our salvation.
One of the beautiful messages of this feast day is that God invites all of us to share in the intimacy of His loving relationship. God draws us to Himself and showers us with that perfect, unending love. He invites us into a covenant relationship through which He accomplishes salvation. In addition to all that, what we discover is that God becomes present through all the relationships we have in life.
So today on this Feast of the Holy Trinity we celebrate God’s desire and willingness to share that love with us and to renew the depth of that relationship every day.
