2013/2014 Religious Education Program

Program & Policy Changes
2013/2014 School Year

Kindergarten

A new bible based program will begin for Kindergarten aged children.  This is a "pilot" program and this will be the first year that these classes will be offered.  Classes will be on Sundays from 10-11am on the same dates that the Sunday 1-5 grade classes are scheduled to meet.

Grades 1-5

Children in grades 1-5 have a choice of attending class at one of the four different times that classes are offered:
  • Session 1 is on Sundays between 10-11, after the 9am Mass
  • Session 2 is on Sundays between 11:30-12:30, after the 10:30am Mass
  • Session 3 is on Tuesdays between 5:30-6:30pm
  • Session 4 is on Wednesdays between 5:30-6:30pm
Additional requirements for First Communion (grade 2) students are included on the schedule.

Students in grades 1-5 will have three (3) excused absences during the year.  Parents need to call the office at 978-562-7662 and let us know when their child will not be in class.  More than three absences will necessitate a call to the parents to schedule a make-up class.

Grades 6-8

Children in grades 6-8 will meet twice a month from 6 to 7:30pm:
Specific dates for these classes are listed on the schedule.

Grades 9-10

Students in grade 9 and grade 10 will meet twice a month on Sundays between 6-7:30pm in preparation for confirmation.

The confirmation preparation program will include:
  • One overnight retreat at the Betania Retreat Center in Medway, MA
  • Community service activities
  • Community building
  • Sacramental preparation
  • Faith formation
  • 10th grade will have small group dinners with the Pastor and team leaders
Specific dates for these classes are listed on the schedule.

Grade 11

Students in grade 11 will attend a confirmation preparation retreat day and confirmation readiness meeting along with a rehearsal.  The dates for these events are included on the schedule.

Home Schooling

St Michael's Parish believes that it is important for each child to be present in the Church and Parish community in order to further enhance their growth in the Catholic faith.  The religious education program will not support a home schooling program.

Registration and Payment

In order to insure our religious education program is viable and sustainable, this year we will be requiring that all families pay the registration fee at the time of registration.  No child will be enrolled in the program or assigned a classroom/teacher until the registration fees have been paid in full. Also there is a $25 late fee for any payment received after June 15th.

A limited number of needs based scholarships are available.  Anyone requesting a scholarship must contact the business manager by June 15th to fill out the necessary scholarship request form.

The family maximum registration cost is $183 (not including sacramental fees) regardless of how many dependent children you have in grade K-12.

The registration costs does not include these additional sacramental fees:
  • Children taking first communion are required to pay an additional $25 sacramental fee for the retreat and supplies
  • Confirmation students in grade 11 pay a $25 sacramental fee, there is no other registration fee for 11th grade
